Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Memivo ("the App") is a German vocabulary learning application developed by Pragpath. This privacy policy explains how the App handles your data. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.

2. Data Collected

The App stores your learning progress locally on your device — word scores, session history, bookmarks, and session configuration. This data is stored on your device using the Capacitor Preferences API. If you enable optional cloud sync, this progress is also stored on our backend, keyed only to an anonymous device identifier (never to your name, email, or phone number).

3. Data Transmitted

The App transmits limited data to third parties for the purposes described below:

• German words you choose to explain are sent to our backend server when you use the AI "Deep-Dive" explanation feature. The word is forwarded to the OpenAI API to generate the explanation, which is then cached. No personal information accompanies it.
• Pronunciation audio is pre-generated and served as static files from our cloud storage; playing a word does not send any data to the AI provider.
• An anonymous device identifier generated by the App is sent to our backend to enable optional cloud sync, save your progress across reinstalls, and enforce daily usage limits on the AI explanation feature.
• Subscription and purchase information is processed by Google Play Billing and shared with RevenueCat (our subscription management provider) if you subscribe to Memivo Premium.
• Advertising identifiers and basic device information are accessed by Google AdMob to deliver and measure advertisements shown to non-premium users.
• Anonymous usage events (e.g. opening the app, starting a session, using an explanation or pronunciation) are sent to our backend to help us improve the App. They are tied only to the anonymous device identifier, contain no personal data, and are never sold. You can turn this off any time in Settings → Privacy.

4. Third-Party Services

The App relies on the following third-party services. Please review each provider's privacy policy for full details:

• OpenAI — generates the AI "Deep-Dive" explanations for words you choose to look up. Privacy policy
• Google AdMob — displays banner, interstitial, and rewarded advertisements for non-premium users. AdMob may access your advertising ID, approximate location (derived from IP), and basic device information. Privacy policy
• Google Play Billing — processes premium subscription payments. Privacy policy
• RevenueCat — manages subscription state and entitlement verification. Privacy policy
• Microsoft Azure — hosts our backend API, database, and pronunciation audio storage (EU regions).

5. Data Retention

Learning progress is stored on your device. If cloud sync is enabled, a copy is retained on our backend against your anonymous device identifier; you can request its deletion via the contact email below. You can remove all on-device data at any time by clearing the App's data or uninstalling it.

6. Personal Data

We do not require account creation, login, or registration. We do not collect your name, email address, or phone number. The App uses an anonymous device identifier solely to enable cloud sync and enforce usage limits — it is not linked to your real-world identity.

7. Advertising

The App displays advertisements provided by Google AdMob to non-premium users. AdMob may access your advertising ID, approximate IP-based location, and basic device information to serve relevant ads and measure ad performance. You can opt out of personalized advertising at any time:

• On Android: Settings → Google → Ads → Opt out of Ads Personalization
• You can reset your advertising ID in the same screen.

Premium subscribers do not see ads, and the AdMob SDK is not contacted for premium users.

For analytics the App uses only first-party, anonymous usage measurement (see Section 3); it does not use third-party analytics or tracking SDKs and does not build advertising profiles beyond what AdMob requires. You can disable usage analytics in Settings → Privacy.

8. Your Rights (GDPR)

• Access: Your learning data is visible within the App at all times. Subscription history is accessible via Google Play.
• Deletion: Clear the App's data or uninstall to remove on-device data. To delete synced server-side data, contact us using the email below.
• Portability: No personal profile is collected, so there is nothing to export.
• Objection: You may opt out of personalized advertising as described in Section 7. To remove ads entirely, subscribe to Memivo Premium.

9. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children. The App is designed for adult and teen language learners studying German at the A1–B1 level.

10. Changes to This Policy

If we make changes to this privacy policy, the updated policy will be published at this URL and the "Last updated" date will be revised. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
